Law & Legal Studies scholarships — FAQs

Direct answers to what Pakistani students ask before applying for law & legal studies funding abroad.

Which law scholarships are open to Pakistani students?

Chevening is the strongest route for Pakistani law graduates — it strongly favours candidates from the legal sector. Commonwealth Scholarships, Fulbright and university awards also fund LLM and master's study in law.

Are there fully funded LLM scholarships for Pakistani students?

Chevening is effectively fully funded for a UK LLM. Several universities also offer full-tuition LLM scholarships based on merit and diversity. PhD positions in law are usually funded through research assistantships.

Do I need legal work experience for a law scholarship?

For LLM and Chevening, at least two years of work experience is typical. Some master's programmes accept recent LLB graduates. PhD applicants need a research proposal and usually a strong LLM result.

Can I practise law abroad with a foreign degree?

Not automatically. Each country has its own bar admission or solicitor qualification process. An LLM adds specialisation but usually doesn't replace the local bar exam. Plan for both study and qualification.

Can I study law abroad without IELTS?

Some LLM programmes accept an MOI certificate or their own test, but law requires strong English, so most programmes set a high IELTS band. Check each university.
