Nursing scholarships — FAQs
Direct answers to what Pakistani students ask before applying for nursing funding abroad.
Are there fully funded nursing scholarships abroad for Pakistani students?
Fully funded pure nursing scholarships at undergraduate level are limited, but funding does exist — especially at postgraduate level, where Chevening, Commonwealth and university awards support master's study in nursing and clinical fields. Many countries facing nurse shortages also offer bursaries, tuition discounts and sponsored routes. Governments schemes like Türkiye Bursları and country bursaries can also cover nursing. Open a country below to see what is available there.
Can I study a BSN abroad on a scholarship?
Some universities offer merit or need-based scholarships toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and a few countries provide subsidised places. Full BSN scholarships are competitive, so many students combine a partial award with savings or a sponsor. If you already hold a nursing diploma, look for RN-to-BSN bridging programmes, which sometimes have their own funding.
Do Pakistani nurses need to pass a licensing exam to work abroad?
Usually, yes. To register as a nurse abroad you typically need to pass a licensing or registration exam and meet English requirements — for example the NCLEX-RN in the USA and parts of Canada, or NMC registration with an OSCE in the UK. A scholarship funds your study; registration is a separate step, so plan for both from the start.
Which nursing specialisations can I get funding for?
Nursing scholarships cover general and clinical nursing as well as specialisations such as midwifery, critical care, paediatric nursing, mental health nursing, community and public health nursing, and nurse education. Postgraduate funding for a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is often broader than undergraduate BSN funding.
Do nursing scholarships require IELTS?
English proficiency is important in nursing because of patient safety, so IELTS or OET is often required, sometimes at a higher band than other fields. That said, a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate or a university's own test may be accepted for study in some countries. Check both the scholarship and the nursing registration body's English requirement.
